Keeping in theme with our blog about Local First Utah, we decided to compile a list of what we believe to be the best local businesses. All of these places have shown us great customer service and friendliness. And no one else can reach the level of high quality that these companies maintain. Check some of these places out and find more at the home page of Local First Utah.
Now, any “Utahan” that’s into the pizza scene is going to know this place! The Pie Pizzeria has become a staple of Utah pizza. My friends and I would go there every weekend if we could. Not only do they have awesome pizza but they also give you that really cool underground pizza feeling. Like you gotta be on the “in” to know about it.

Watch out corporate coffee places! Here comes Beans & Brew to steal your thunder! I’m sure I don’t have to tell you about the growing popularity of Beans & Brews. I’m positive that this has something to do with the fact that they have some pretty legit coffee. That mixed with the fact that it’s a local store? Awesome!

One of my biggest passions is music, and guitar is the love of my life. In fact the majority of the employees here at The Lightwurx play guitar. And as a guitarist I don’t go anywhere else other than Guitar Czar. They have a more diverse selection of guitars, basses and accessories than any other company I’ve been to. On top of that, the knowledge that they have and are willing to share with their customers is unmatched! Also, they do AWESOME tech work. I took a guitar in for a set up, it was almost like I traded it in for a brand new guitar.

A local independent Utah bookstore since 1977, The King’s English Bookshop is a nice cozy store nestled in a beautiful residential neighborhood of Salt Lake City. With eight book-packed rooms their selections run the gamut. Everything from children’s books and poetry to Westerners and mysteries!

Faces Photography is a wonderful photography studio very close to the homes of Sandy. With high grade professional equipment and minds working hard to capture your memorable moments so that they are just as vivid 20 years down the line as they are now.

First off, how awesome of a name is Moochies? The name just makes me sound full. Actually, I’m craving meatballs now. But seriously, their sandwiches are huge, juicy, and delicious! I also managed to catch them on the Dinners, Drive-Ins, and Dives tv show on the food network. You must be doing something right if you are on that show.

Well now, I have to say. I’m a metal head through and through. And let’s face it fellow head bangers. There just isn’t very many places where you can get the old school metal merchandise. That’s where the heavy metal shop comes in. This place has the best selection of all the best 70s and 80s metal bands. This is where I do all my metal shopping.

Being somewhat of a chicken wing connoisseur myself, I’m always looking for the best wings in the valley. I’ve been all around. And I have yet to find chicken wings as good as the Wing Coop. High quality wings and a great atmosphere. Go in, get messy on wings, have a beer and watch the game! On top of that, they have 75 cent wings on Mondays and Thursdays!

When I was a youngin’ I was really into bike riding. I’d get home from school, frantically do my homework and I’d be off the bmx race track. And it was nice because one of the best bike shops in the valley was right next to my house. Canyon Bicycles! I’d go down there, hang around check out the awesome bikes and accessories and chat with the employees there. I don’t really bike anymore, but my dad is an avid bike rider. And he goes nowhere else!

When I was young, walking into this place was like walking into a toy store! In some ways, it’s still the same way.
I came from a background of bad junk food munching. Whenever I could I would snack on something that wasn’t healthy for me. But now, I’m trying to be healthier and if I need to munch on something, it’s gotta be good for me. Allgood Provisions is great because it’s all natural food from independent farms hand-picked with care. Allgoods has the environments best interest in mind with all aspects of their business, they even donate 1% of their sales to environmental efforts around the world.

Eleanor’s is a family owned and operated bake shop specializing in all gluten free goodies. On the menu is everything you’d find in a regular bake shop. From soups to cupcakes and even wedding cakes for your special events! What’s great about this place is that everything is gluten free. The founders were allergic to gluten, so they opened up shop to share their love and passion of gluten free bakes with everyone. And I think they are doing a great job!

When Cactus & Tropicals opened up near my house my sister and I went to check it out. Let me tell you, this is no ordinary greenhouse. This place has amazing and beautiful products set up in a way that’s almost like a showroom. Everything from tropical & local plants to beautiful fountains can be found here.

Founded in the spring of 2011, Adopt Me Society (AMS) is a non-profit organization based out of Salt Lake City. Their goal is to rescue stray and abandoned animals and ultimately find them new loving homes and families. Adopt Me Society has been rescuing animals of all breeds from the euthanasia lists to give them a second chance at life. If you’re looking for a pet this holiday season adopt from AMS and give a homeless animal a warm home.
